Youth from various secondary schools around the island have once again gathered to address issues, exchange ideas and support each other around the on-going annual Passion Conference platform which is taking place at the Seychelles Trading Company (STC) conference room.
Jointly hosted by the Everlasting Love Ministry (Elm) and the Youth For Christ International (YFCI), the one-week event under the theme ‘Passion to lead and transform’ is covering topics such as substance abuse and prevention; discipline and behaviour – reality and expectations; academic performances – ownership and expectations; sexual health – our responsibilities; entrepreneurship – the future, as well as table discussion on how the youth perceive the future.
The conference will also feature songs, praise and worship.
According to Mervin Pool, the director of the YFCI Seychelles, the Passion Conference was initially started in 2016 following a need to gather youth from secondary schools so they could address various issues, challenges and difficulties faced.
He explained that the conference is also a chance for the youth to synergize since the normal activities of YFCI Seychelles targets individual schools.
Mr Pool added that the different topics chosen for the conference reflects the need of the community and that they vary each year.
Targeting youth from secondary school, Mr Pool said it helps to mould them into leaders who will be role models and also mentors for others in difficult situations, but only through their own willingness to be helped.
The Elm is a non-governmental organisation founded in 2010 whose mission is to reach out to the youth of Seychelles and educate them about honourable moral values, enabling them to shun negative lifestyles.
As for the Youth for Christ, it is a worldwide Christian movement working with young people around the globe. Motivated by our own faith we give young people everywhere the opportunity to be followers of Jesus Christ.
